Using AI in our recruitment process

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already part of our everyday lives, from the smart tech we use at home to the tools that help us to plan, make decisions, and deliver with pace at work.

Here at N Brown, we’re already starting to see the ways in which AI can support and improve how we do things.  We believe that it can help us to work smarter and make time for more meaningful interactions that support achieving our vision.

How we use AI matters and we’re committed to doing this thoughtfully and responsibly, in a way that reflects our values and supports all of our candidates and colleagues to be AI-confident.

How we use ai

Our approach is human first, recognising AI is a supporting tool that enables us to work smarter.

We may use AI-enabled tools to support our recruitment process, such as:

  • Note taking – We may use AI to transcribe an interview or career conversation and to summarise your answers in a document. Using AI for this purpose is simply to enable us to work more efficiently and ensures our hiring managers are more present at interview. Decisions will always be made by a human.

  • Job adverts – We may use AI to support the creation of relevant, engaging job adverts that are free from bias. Using AI for this purpose means we can produce drafts more efficiently, the content will then be reviewed and finalised by our Talent Team and Hiring Managers to ensure the information we are communicating is accurate.

Where we don’t use AI in our recrutiment process:

To screen applications – Applications are reviewed by either the Talent Team or the Hiring manager recruiting for the role. We do not use AI tools to review our applications.·

To conduct screening calls or interviews – If you are invited for a conversation or an interview, whether it be virtual or in person, you’ll always speak to an N Brown colleague or trusted partner.

Using AI in Your Application

AI can be a helpful tool when you’re applying for a new role. However, we want to get to know the real you so it’s important that it is only used to support your ideas rather than replace them!

Some great ways AI can support you with your N Brown application:

  • Generating practice questions from the job advert to help prepare for your interview

  • Researching about the role or our business

  • Checking your spelling or grammar on a CV or presentation.

Examples of what to avoid when using AI:

  • Using AI in an interview to help you answer questions. We want you to be fully engaged during your interview so we can get to know you and your experience.

  • Copying and using AI-generated content without updating it to make it your own.

  • Using AI for technical, skills-based, or take-home assessments designed to evaluate your own individual ability.

The best applications are honest, personal and clearly written in your own voice and from your own perspective. Overusing AI can be obvious, especially at interview. If we have concerns that AI has been used to make a false representation or misrepresent information during the application or interview process, this may result in your application being rejected or an offer of employment being withdrawn

Equality, Accessibility and AI

N Brown is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Our recruitment process is human-first. AI will not be used to make decisions about applications, interviews, or hiring outcomes. In parts of the process where AI tools are used (such as note taking or drafting job adverts), the outputs are carefully reviewed by our Talent Team to ensure fairness, consistency and accessibility.

We recognise that candidates may use assistive technologies, including AI-based tools, as part of their normal way of working. Using these tools for accessibility purposes will not negatively impact your application.

We are happy to provide reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process. If you need support or have questions about accessibility or AI use, please let us know and we’ll work with you to ensure a fair experience.

Updates to this Policy

AI is evolving quickly and so will our approach. This policy may be updated from time to time, the latest version will always be available on our careers site.
