Data is at the heart of everything N Brown does, and the Data Science team works across the business to find ways to turn data-derived insights into positive outcomes for people shopping with us.  Our mission is to find customers who love our brands and to uncover the products and propositions which are perfect for them - so that they can look and feel amazing!

We’ve won some of the biggest retail awards for our use of AI and our projects feature in our annual financial reports recognising data as a key strategic pillar. We regularly showcase what we do hosting some of the largest Data Science conferences in the North-West. We build data products to make real and seismic change. And today we are looking for an experienced Lead Data Scientist to deliver and inspire.

As a Lead Data Scientist you will:

*        Line manage other Data Scientists offering technical mentorship and steering within the Data Science team.

*        Use machine learning to solve complex business problems in various domains.

*        Produce compelling data stories backed by powerful visualisations.

*        Contribute to an open, progressive and passionate data community.

*        Write and code review efficient, production-level, test-driven code.

*        Use leading technologies to tackle major strategic initiatives.

What you’ll need to succeed:

*        A track record of delivering successful commercial outcomes through Data Science.

*        An excellent understanding of ML frameworks, algorithms and statistical methods.

*        An excellent understanding of Python and SQL.

*        Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and inspire others.

*        Critically, a passion to do amazing things with data science in a collaborative environment.

Beneficial but by no means critical if you can bring experience with:

*        AWS SageMaker, S3, Athena, and associated AWS services, or equivalent.

*        Git version control.

Working in our team you’ll benefit from:

*       Hybrid working. We spend a couple of days in the office together to socialise and learn better together.

*       Accelerated Development. We work towards certifications of interest, we run knowledge sharing sessions, we work with industry partners.

*       The latest technology. We work with an advanced cloud stack and are constantly looking to raise the bar in finding better ways of working.

*       A strong community. We have a centralised community of 30 passionate data scientists that you’ll become a part of.

*       A diverse team. We recognise the value of diversity and our multinational team strikes a good gender balance with a range of academic and commercial backgrounds.

*       A bit of fun. We run quizzes every fortnight, work together on pro-bono projects, plus we’re well placed in Manchester’s Northern Quarter for social events.

We’re looking for people with a passion for what they do, pride in the brand they work for and the curiosity and proactivity to do things better with data. If you feel your experience and attitude match what we’re looking for then we’d love to hear from you.
