Overview of the role

As the Internal Communications and Colleague Engagement Manager, you’ll be pivotal in keeping colleagues across N Brown informed and engaged, and in contributing to a collaborative, innovative inclusive and digitally-led culture.

Reporting to the Head of Communications & Engagement, you’ll be responsible for delivering the Internal Communications and Engagement strategy, developing and executing creative initiatives and content that bring this to life for all of our colleagues – both within our Head office as well as our warehouse operations environment. You’ll have a love of storytelling which is supported by the ability to translate this into meaningful messaging and activity for colleagues, improving their experience of working at N Brown.

We’re looking for a dynamic, creative and experienced professional who is passionate about effective communication, the power of an engaged workforce, and colleague wellbeing who will look to continuously improve our Internal Communications and Engagement approach.  You will work closely with the People team, as well as with colleagues from around the business, to take forwards initiatives and land them successfully.

What will you do as an Internal Communications and Colleague Engagement Manager at N Brown?

 

Internal Communications strategic implementation and delivery:

  • As well as providing input to the Internal Communications & Engagement strategy, you will develop and implement a series of compelling activities and initiatives which deliver this with colleagues.
  • Management of the communications calendar to make sure that our comms are timely and engaging.
  • Craft clear and compelling messages and campaigns that effectively communicate key information to colleagues and engage them at all levels.
  • Optimise our communications channels to ensure we reach colleagues effectively. This includes current channels as well as implementing new ones where necessary.
  • Ensure a focus on two-way communications and in providing opportunities for colleague voice.
  • Reporting on activity, using key metrics to inform, evaluate and improve the work that we do.

 

Content creation:

  • Lead on creating innovative, engaging and informative content for internal communication channels, including newsletters, articles, and video messages, as well as introducing new channels.
  • Ensure that content is tailored to target audiences and aligns with our business messaging, vision and values.
  • Collaborate with department heads to gather relevant information and success stories to share with colleagues.
  • Ensure consistent messaging, tone of voice and branding across all internal communication materials.

 

Colleague Engagement activity:

  • Design, implement, and manage colleague engagement programmes aimed at enhancing understanding, motivation, and overall wellbeing.  This includes our colleague wellbeing strategy and recognition campaigns.
  • Manage our core colleague engagement feedback channels - including the bi-annual engagement survey process - to help us to understand how colleagues are feeling, support the sharing of insight with leaders, and using data to inform our own communications planning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to organise events and initiatives that promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

 

Employer brand proposition:

Technology integration:

  • Stay abreast of emerging communication technologies and platforms to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our channels.
  • Support the implementation of innovative solutions to facilitate seamless communication and collaboration among colleagues.

 

What skills and experience will you have?

  • An experienced Communications professional, with proven experience (minimum 3+ years) within a mid-level Internal Communications, Colleague Engagement, or related role.
  • Practical experience of delivering effective and engaging internal communications.
  • A degree in a related area – for example English, Communications, Marketing – is desirable but not essential for a candidate with extensive experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and executing successful colleague engagement programmes.
  • Familiarity with communication tools, intranet platforms, and social media for business.
  • Faultless written and verbal communication skills, with a strong eye for detail and the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Organised and able to balance multiple priorities and work flexibly across communication and engagement areas.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, and skilled in communicating with colleagues across different levels of the business and in working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
