We’re looking for a Machine Learning Engineer join our Data Engineering team. As the ML Ops Engineer, you will be at the forefront of innovation, working as part of a small team of skilled engineers to develop and deploy scalable machine learning models. As part of your role, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and expanding platform(s) that enable data scientists to deploy their machine learning models with ease.

What will you do as a Machine Learning Engineer at N Brown?

  • Work within a team of engineers to create, maintain, and extend our analytics platform.
  • Aid and assist the working design patterns for ingesting, transforming, and exposing data.
  • You will help drive the adoption of strong CICD practices to reduce risks to deployments.
  • Bring you skills and experience of best practice and coding standards into the team. Work with the wider Data Engineering and Group Data team to share ways of working.
  • You will collaborate across technology squads and teams as part of your role, whilst maintaining delivery and outcome focus.
  • You will be working in an agile operating model with cross-functional teams.
  • Help to migrate the existing Machine Learning platform from AWS to GCP over a period of 12 to 18 months.
  • Effectively manage both old and new Machine Learning Platforms, ensuring both platforms are reliable, scalable, and secure. You will take a proactive approach to monitoring.

What skills and experience will you have?

  • A strong communicator, able to bring complex technical concepts to life for business stakeholders and equally convey business needs effectively to technical audiences.
  • Knowledge in working with at least one cloud platform AWS (SageMaker) and GCP (Vertex AI)
  • A growth mindset - Ability to assess the value Machine Learning brings to the business and also knowing when machine learning is not suitable
  • An excellent understanding of object-oriented programming in Python and strong SQL skills.
  • A good understanding of automated testing principles including test-driven development.
  • A good understanding of distributed version control (Git).
  • Curiosity to experiment and improve, whilst staying aligned on outcomes.
  • Experience with Google Cloud products (Vertex, BigQuery, GCS, Cloud Composer, Dataflow etc.) or similar products from other cloud platforms
  • Appreciation of data management, analytics, science, and visualisation workflows and data needs

Ways of Working

We offer hybrid working which varies across the business depending on the role you’re in. For this role, the expectation would be 1 day every other week. Our Head Office is located in the Northern Quarter in Manchester City Centre. So if you are travelling by train, tram or bus we’re perfectly located, plus we’re surrounded by cool cafes, trendy bars and the best places to eat!

Our working hours are 36.17 per week and our core working hours are between 10am - 4pm. Given we don’t have strict working hours you can find the working pattern that’s right for you.
