Our History
1920s-1960s - Founded in 1875, JD Williams became a private company in 1921. Since 1963, the JD Williams family sold its shares to a subsidiary of the Alliance Brothers. Today, Baron Alliance GBE remains a non-executive director of our parent company, N Brown Group.
1960s-1990s - We acquired Ambrose Wilson, the world's largest mail-order corsetry company. We had traditionally targeted ladies over 50, but by 1990 we had taken a big step toward diversifying our portfolio with Fashion World, a new catalogue aimed at a younger age range.
2000s - By purchasing High and Mighty in 2009, we made our first foray into the high street. The Figleaves acquisition in 2010 strengthened our market-leading position in online underwear sales by strengthening our portfolio. We expanded in 2011 in an exciting new direction and launched our first Simply Be store in Liverpool city centre. After that, we introduced Jacamo to the high street.
Now - In addition to our £800 million turnover, we're an example of excellence. Our uncompromising commitment to fashion for all shapes and sizes makes us so successful. Plus-size fashion pioneer, we're dedicated to quality, value for money and excellent customer service. In our fantastic brands, we cater to a variety of customers, young and old.
