The role 

 
 

Reporting into the Retail/Trade Senior Commercial Finance Manager, you will be a key Finance Business Partner to the Trading, Buying and Merchandising elements of the business.

This is a highly commercial role where you will need to need to understand the intricacies of lots of non- finance areas of the business to support your key stakeholders.

An ability to take complex financial information and then use this to advise, influence and challenge stakeholders is critical to the position, with Strategic objectives for the company at the forefront of your business partnering.

Alongside this you will aid the wider Commercial Finance team in generating accurate forecasts and budgets for Revenue, Margin, Cashflow and Product Sourcing/Purchases.

In addition to the Business Partnering and FP&A elements to the role, you will support the management accounts team and central finance to ensure Stock, Cost of Sales and Operating Expenditure is accurately reconciled, reported and then re-issued to your stakeholders to drive action and change where necessary.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for development and curiosity, with desire to improve processes and learn about all areas of the business in a wide-reaching role, which will also touch areas such as Logistics, Financial Services, Marketing and Customer Services.

The candidate will be newly qualified, with 3/4+ years’ experience ideally in a B2C environment (though not essential).

The candidate will also have strong Excel skills and exceptional analytical skills with an ability to communicate effectively with Stakeholders in person, via written communications and via presentations.

 
 

Core Activities:

  • To Business Partner key stakeholders in Trading, Buying and Merchandise to ensure financial metrics are aligned to company strategy by providing commercial and finance insight, with clear reporting to show insight for varying levels of stakeholder up to Director level.
  • Supports Senior Commercial Finance Manager by championing change management; driving improvements to financial accountability across the Division and Organisation and improving financial processes to improve overall efficiency; identifying and contributing to business improvement opportunities, Margin Improvement, Operational Costs Improvement, Continuous Overhead Reduction.
  • Enhance commercial understanding within stakeholders by ensuring they understand their responsibilities for the overall financial goals of their Division and the business.
  • Provide stakeholders with independent, objective and practical advice, guidance and coaching in relation to embedding a commercial mind-set and governance 4.
  • Ad hoc analysis and provision of financial advice as required to support decision-making and monitoring of financial performance 5.
  • Support the Senior Commercial Finance Manager in becoming key members of each Brands (E.G JD Williams, Simply Be, Jacamo) Trading squad to ensure each arm of the business has focused financial understanding and responsibility to achieve internal aims.
  • To work closely with the Senior Commercial Finance Manager and Finance Team to develop the financial control agenda to ensure that the business is focussing on delivering the highest commercial value and ensuring optimal performance on financial/performance targets/KPI’s.
  • Accountable for aiding Management Accounts with: a. Month end close - actuals, forecast, review with directors b. Month end reporting - summarise financial position / issues / action identification and tracking c. Contribute to Trading Performance - provide commercial narrative / insight - summarise and track material issues and actions. d. Compliance with statutory and group financial obligations e. Inventory Reporting f. Group Sales Reconciliation and Cost of Goods.
